After a delayed start to the rugby season Waiheke High School began with a solid performance against Mount Albert Grammar Blue on Saturday. The opening phases of play signalled the Islanders determination to replicate the successes of their two previous 4B campaigns in the 2012 4A competition.

Waiheke's World Cup Opener

As Auckland’s excitement over the impending Rugby World Cup continues to build Waiheke High School and the Waiheke Rugby Club are finalising preparations for hosting their own international fixture. On the eve of the Rugby World Cup, Thursday the 8th of September, the entire Tongan youth squad consisting of 82 players and 9 officials will be journeying to our fair shores for a fixture against the Waiheke Fourth Grade Rugby side.

WHS Rugby Finals

During the initial stages of this weekends final of the Auckland Secondary Schools fourth grade competition Waiheke struggled to establish a foothold on the game. Without an effective link between the forward pack and the backline the Waiheke side found themselves isolated and unable to retain possession. Consequently, despite a relatively strong start and a stirring haka, the islanders were unable to maintain the continuity needed to put points on the board during the first half.

Rugby Fourth Grade Finals

Our Fourth Grade Rugby team is playing Green Bay this weekend in the grand final at Sacred Heart College.  We've previously had some poor performances against Green Bay in the past and our boys are eager to put in an outstanding effort for this match.  The only thing they are missing is YOU! 

Our boys need your support and would appreciate the confidence boost of a large Waiheke section cheering them on.  Our team has put in a lot of hard work into this season and it all comes down to this!   You can find directions from Half Moon Bay and from Britomart below.

Rugby Semifinals Report

fifth grade

After an excellent season the Waiheke High School fifth graders couldn’t maintain their momentum into this weekend’s semi-final against St. Peters College as several factors culminated to provide a disjointed and delayed start to the game. Having defeated St. Peters earlier in the season, and after a stirring Haka, the Waiheke High School side looked to be the favourites.
