Some of the highlights of living on Waiheke and attending Waiheke High School are:

  • Waiheke Island is located in the Hauraki Gulf.
  • The Island is 35 minutes from downtown Auckland by fast ferry.
  • The Island generally has low rainfall and the average temperatures are 4 degrees warmer than Auckland.
  • Waiheke has a population of about 8,000 residents, many of whom commute to the City each day.  In summer the population grows to about 30,000.  It is considered to be a safe community.
  • Waiheke has many beautiful beaches and is well-known for its vineyards.
  • Waiheke Island has an area of 9324 hectares or 36 square miles.
  • There are 60 kilometres (37 miles) of coastline.
  • Recreational activities available on Waiheke Island include: golf, bush walking in the beautiful reserves, kayaking, sailing, swimming and other maritime activities including fishing. There are also various clubs, art classes, exercise and community classes and sporting activities.  Sports played either at Waiheke High School, or through clubs, include tennis, rugby, basketball, soccer, netball and table tennis.
